Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to see an orthodontist?

No referral is required. You can contact our office directly to schedule an evaluation, and we’ll gladly coordinate with your dentist if you were referred.

Do I still need to see my general dentist during treatment?

Yes. Keep your regular 6‑month cleanings and exams during orthodontic treatment. Braces and aligners can trap plaque, so professional cleanings protect teeth and gums.

How long does orthodontic treatment take?

Every smile is different. Most treatments take 12–24 months, while limited cases may finish sooner; timing depends on your goals, tooth movement, and appliance wear.

Does insurance cover orthodontic treatment?

Many plans include an orthodontic benefit, often with a lifetime maximum and age limits. We’ll verify coverage, provide a clear estimate, and apply eligible benefits.

Do you offer after work hours?

We offer convenient daytime appointments and do our best to work around school and work schedules. For urgent issues after hours, call the office for instructions.

How long do I need to wear my retainers?

Teeth naturally shift. Expect full‑time wear at first, then nightly wear long‑term to maintain results. Replace your retainer if it’s lost, cracked, or no longer fits.

How do I schedule my next appointment?

Call or text the office, or request a visit online, and we’ll find a time that fits your schedule. A parent or guardian should book for patients under 18.

How often will I come in for an appointment?

Most patients are seen every 6–10 weeks for adjustments or aligner check‑ins. Visit frequency varies by treatment stage and how your teeth are responding.

Will I need to have any teeth extracted?

Not always. Many cases are treated without extractions, but removing teeth may be recommended for severe crowding, impacted teeth, or to improve bite balance.

Will I be able to play sports/ play my instrument?

Yes. Wear a mouthguard for contact sports, and expect a short adjustment period for wind or brass instruments. We’ll share tips to keep you comfortable.

Will I have to watch what I eat?

With braces, avoid hard, sticky, and chewy foods that can damage brackets and wires. With aligners, remove them to eat and brush before putting them back in.
